GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING MOUSE MENUS 1. Installing the Mouse Menu Install the mouse hardware and software, following the instructions in the Microsoft Mouse User's Guide. To load or start the Mouse Menu, read and follow the procedure below that applies to your particular system. If you are using floppy disks: Copy the Mouse Menu file from the Mouse Menu disk to the working copy of your software. (i.e., MSDB3.COM is the menu file for dBase III Plus, and you would only copy that file to your disk) If you are using a hard disk: Copy the Mouse Menu file to the directory that contains the software. 2. Starting Instructions To load the Mouse Menu, switch to the drive or directory that contains the Mouse Menu file. At the DOS prompt, type the name of the file like the example below: MENUNAME Then load your software as you normally do. When you have finished, it is advisable to remove your Mouse Menu from memory to avoid interference with other programs. At the DOS prompt, type the following command: MENUNAME OFF 3. Using the Mouse The mouse moves the cursor around the screen. When a Mouse Menu has been loaded for your program, the buttons on the mouse generally do the following: Left Button Click - displays a menu, usually a mouse menu Right Button Click - same as Both Buttons Click - same as Button Double Click - (i.e., left or right button double click) special assignment, specific to each menu The following notes for each menu will give you more specific information on how the buttons work for that software. 4. Sensitivity You can use the Control Panel to control the sensitivity of the mouse movement on your screen. For more information the Control Panel, see the "Microsoft Mouse User's Guide." 5. Compatibility The Mouse menus are designed to work with 25-line displays. To use this menu, you need to load it into memory before you start your application. See the general instructions above for loading a mouse menu. MSMENU Button Functions Once MSMENU is loaded, the mouse moves the cursor like the cursor keys do. The buttons on the mouse work as follows: Left Button Click - Your choice: the first time you press the left button, a menu will come up and you can choose to assign a key to the left button (i.e., Q&A uses the F10 key in all it's menus to continue the operation). If you want to assign a combination of keys (SHIFT, CTRL or ALT +) highlight and click right on one of these choices and an additional menu will come up to complete the request. Now the left button will be the key you selected until you re-assign the the button or unload MSMENU. Right Button Click - Same as Both Buttons Click - Same as Right Double Click - Displays the left button definition menu. You can re-assign the left button to a new key while you are still in your program. You can adjust the sensitivity of the mouse movement by using the CPANEL program. See the "Microsoft Mouse User's Guide" for instructions. dBASE III PLUS Mouse Menu Mouse Button Functions The mouse is only active in the ASSIST mode. After loading dBASE III PLUS, the left button starts the ASSIST mode. Once in ASSIST, the right button selects the option highlighted in the menus. When ASSIST menus are on screen - Left Button Click - Displays Mouse Help Right Button Click - Chooses menu option Both Buttons Click - Same as key When ASSIST menus are not on screen - Left Button Click - Starts ASSIST Right Button Click - Same as the key Both Buttons Click - Same as the key LOTUS 1-2-3, ver. 1A to 2.01a Mouse Menu 1. Movement Functions In READY mode, the mouse cursor is separate from the 1-2-3 block cursor. To move the 1-2-3 cursor, move the mouse cursor to the cell desired and press the left button. The 1-2-3 cursor will move to the desired cell. In MENU mode, the mouse cursor is not separate; it controls the 1-2-3 cursor directly. There are 9 Screen Options on the right of the screen - Home, PgUp, PgRt, PgLt, PgDn, and four arrows (up, left, right, and down). In this version of 1-2-3, you can choose to turn the "beep" off. Here are the commands: Left Click (/), Worksheet, Global, Default, Other, Beep, No, Update, Quit Do not select Update if this is to be a temporary status. SYMPHONY, ver. 1.2 and 2.0 Mouse Menu 1. Switch Set up Graph as the alternate Type , and then Switch between the two types. Switch and Type are on all main mouse menus for easy access. If you Switch into a Graph screen, you will need to press to switch back. View and Graph When you select an option on the View or Graph menu that calls up a list to the screen, the left button will activate the mouse in that list and you can select a title by highlighting it with the mouse and pressing the right button. 6. Graph Once a graph has been drawn on the screen, exit by pressing both mouse buttons two times (same as ), or touch any key on the keyboard. PROFESSIONAL WRITE, ver. 1, 2, 2.1 Mouse Menu Mouse Button Functions Left Button Click - Text Screen - Displays the Mouse Menu at the top of the screen - Help Screen - When Help screen is displayed, pressing the left button again will call up the Help Index Menu (ver. 2 and 2.1) - Write Menu - Calls up a Help screen - Lists Screen - When a list is displayed such as the printer, macro or range name list and the prompt at the bottom of the menu box says to use the PgDn or PgUp key, move the mouse cursor to the bottom or top line in the list and press the left button to scroll down or up a page in the list. Note: The directory and help lists scroll up and down by moving the mouse vertically. - Page Preview - Calls up Options menu and allows you to scroll to the other menus (ver. 2.1) - Style Menu - Calls up a mouse menu for choosing styles. Move the cursor to the ones you want and press the right button. When finished, choose Exit (ver. 2 and 2.1) - Address Menu - When you have found an address, press the left button for a mouse menu that contains applicable commands. If you are in a WordPerfect menu and would like to use the mouse, press the left button to call up the mouse menu that corresponds to the command you are using. For the Block command: after you highlight the block, press the left button to call up a menu of commands that work with Block. 5. Thesaurus Thesaurus is found on the Spell Mouse menu. When you select this feature, you will get a sub-menu of choices that match the WordPerfect menu. When you select any of these options, you will drop back to the WordPerfect menu for Thesaurus. At this point you can use the mouse to move horizontally from column to column. You must type in your selection from the keyboard or you can press both buttons on the mouse to exit or you can press the left button to see the mouse menu again. Special instructions: Replace Word: To select a word from a different column, press both buttons to exit the mouse menu and move the cursor to the column you wish. Then press the left button to return to the mouse menu and choose "Replace Word". Then type in the letter of the word you want. View Doc: Choose this option on the mouse menu, view your document, and when you are finished, press the right button to EXIT the document. Then press the left button to return to the mouse menu. WordPerfect 5.0 Mouse Menu 1. Starting Instructions To use the Mouse, load Wordperfect 5.0 with the following command: WP/NK 2. Windows If you want to view two documents and either one has no tabs, you will need to view them full screen (24 line window) and use Switch. 5. Thesaurus Thesaurus is found on the Spell menu. When you select this feature, you will get a sub-menu of choices that match the WordPerfect menu. When you select any of these options, you will drop back to the WordPerfect menu for Thesaurus.
